Granite Walling & Dyking

Writer: Edwin LuggEdwin Lugg

This summer we collaborated with Carl of (Landmark Walling) and Billy (Dry stone Walling Services / Drystane Dyking Services) to create this beautiful garden feature wall.

The design was tricky to execute due to one side of the wall designed to have an extreme batter and the opposite side was formed plumb. As soon as the wall changed in height or direction, the profiles had to be calculated precisely in order for the batter to remain the same.

Granite is a dense stone and is difficult to work with hammer and chisel. We found that the most efficient way to work with the stone, was down to the stone selection. Because of the variety in size and shape granite can come in, a random style was suitable for this particular wall.

Finally to finish the wall, the stone for the coping was hand selected in order to finish to the top line. Carl was very insistent this has to be "bang on". Thankfully we didn't let the team down.
