Picturesque Angus

Writer's picture: Edwin LuggEdwin Lugg

Angus is charming, picturesque and positively whimsical. The countryside has miles of drystone walls formed of a lovely soft pink sandstone native to the area.

On arrival the outbuilding we were to restore looked sad and in need of a lift. Working on Patrick and Natalie's outbuilding provided plenty of challenges. The job had lintel, quoins and stone replacement. Crack stitching and over 90m2 of cement pointing removed and replaced with a suitable lime mortar.

The outbuilding was built in 1790. The main house was even older and was built in 1750. All of the original stone was used to repair the scheduled works. Any additional stone work such as the lintel was used from spare stone in the garden.
